How Much is the Text Message Service per year?

Our service is just $49.99 per year.

How do I cancel my Service?

Please contact our support department at 1-888-454-5051 or send us a cancellation request to support@pumpalarm.com.

How do I renew my Service each year?

As part of the activation process we require the input of billing information which is used to autorenew your service each year. This means you will be automatically billed on your activation anniversary date each year. If your card needs updated you can do so online at PumpAlarm.com/activate or by giving us a call at 888-454-5051.

How quickly will I be notified if the Cellular Alarm detects water?

You device will need a water sensor installed. Once installed, The Cellular Alarm sends a text message and sounds an audible alarm as soon as it detects water, this is nearly instantaneous.

Why didn’t I receive a notification when my sump pump turned on?

Your Alarm does not monitor the operation of your sump pump, so it will not send a notification when your sump pump motor turns on or off. The Alarm will detect water with the available water sensors, set at whatever height you want to receive a text message alert.

Will I receive a notification when everything returns back to normal?

Yes, you will receive a text message as soon as the water level returns to normal or AC electrical power is restored to your unit.

How do notifications work?

Notifications are sent as text messages to the phone numbers programmed into your Cellular Water Alarm
Unit. Cellular Water Alarm will not send notifications if phone numbers are not properly programmed into the Cellular Water Alarm Unit. Notifications are sent when the Cellular Water Alarm Sensors detect a high water situation or when the power coming from the AC electrical outlet is no longer available. Cellular Water Alarm will also send notifications when the water level returns to normal and when power is restored to the A/C outlet.

How deep should I hang the Float Switch in my sump pit?

The Float Switch should hang a few inches above the top of your sump pump motor. The exact height will vary depending on the size of your sump pit and the power of your sump pump motor. The generalization is that you should hang the sensors at a height that allows for ample time to receive a notification and do something about the problem before a flood occurs.

Note: be sure to only use the float in your sump pit as the water detector is very sensitive and can trigger false alarms due to splashing in your pit. Use the water detector next to floor drains and under appliances where it is normally dry.

How do I add a phone number to my unit?

The unit can store up to three phone numbers, phone1, phone2, phone3. Programming the numbers is simple, you’ll just send a text message to the number given during activation (once you have it save it to your contacts for future use). For example, if you wanted to program 555-555-5555 as your first number you would send a message exactly as it appears below:

Note: To program a phone number into the unit’s phone 1 slot, you must start the message with the word phone1. To program the second and third numbers you’ll simply use the words phone2 or phone3, respectively, in place of phone1.

When the unit receives the message, it will chirp twice and then it will respond with a text message that contains the current settings. You should wait for the text message response on your phone before proceeding. If an error occurred while processing your text message, the alarm will beep 3 times.

Can I add a custom name to my Alarm unit?

You will send a text message to your unit. For example if you wanted to name your unit “Jones Home”, simply text the message exactly as it appears below:

name Jones Home

Note: You can use any word or words you want in place of Jones Home, e.g. Sump Alarm, Pump Alarm, Pit Alarm, Alarm etc. Important! To program a name into your unit you must start the message with the word name.

You should wait for the text message response on your phone before proceeding. If an error occurred while processing your text message, the alarm will beep 3 times.

What commands can I send to the Cellular Alarm?

The unit accepts commands sent via text message. Upon receipt of commands, the unit will chirp (beep) twice and send a text message with the current settings to all phone numbers configured in the unit. If an error occurs while processing command, the
alarm will beep three times.

Can I add my contractors name and phone to the Cellular Alarm?

Yes, each device allows you to configure a contractor name with associated contact information. When this information is configured, the cellular alarm appends this contact information to the end of alarm notifications (input alarms, low battery, power loss, etc.)
so you know who to call in an emergency.

For example, an input alarm will be formatted as follows: 

[Unit Name] has detected a high water level for input 1 at [HH:MM AM/PM] on [MM/DD/YY]. Please contact [Contractor Name] at [Contact Info] for assistance.

Is it hard to install the Cellular Alarm? What tools will I need?

Your Cellular Alarm will be simple to install and should take a matter of minutes. The box comes with the mounting clamps to hang the unit on your sump pump’s discharge pipe. So, the only tool you will need is a phillips head screwdriver to tighten down the clamps. If wall mounting, we also include a template, drywall anchors and screws.

Does activation also start the annual subscription to text notification service?

Yes, you will be automatically billed annually on your activation date. See the subscription FAQ for more information on subscriptions.

Why does my unit require activation?

In order to receive your unit phone number and continue with installation and programming, you must first activate your unit.

Where do I go to activate my unit and what information do I need to provide?

You’ll need to visit PumpAlarm.com/activate where you’ll enter your unit’s ID, found on a label at the top of your unit’s enclosure. After entering this number, you’ll need to provide your billing information, email address, and phone number. Once you agree to the terms of use and confirm your information, your unit phone number will be displayed on screen. This number along with a receipt will be emailed to the address provided.

Will PumpAlarm.com devices work with my mobile device? Are there smartphone apps?

PumpAlarm.com products work with any device that accepts SMS (Short Message Service) or text messages. This includes all cellular phones and some cloud based software like Google Voice. If you want to know if your phone or software accepts text messages please contact your provider.

We do not currently have a mobile phone app.

How do I know my device is working?

You’ll want to test your alarm unit using the following procedure:

1. Test Your Device

– Momentarily press and release the “Push to Test/Hold to Configure” button

– The alarm will send a test notification to all phone numbers that have been configured

2. Test Your Pit Sensors

– Fill a drinking glass or bowl with a little tap water

– Submerge the pit sensor in the water

– The unit should begin to sound its alarm and each phone number you configured will receive a notification text message

– Remove the pit sensor from the water

– The unit will stop sounding its alarm and each phone number you configured will receive a notification text message

3. Test Your Backup Batteries

– Unplug the A/C Power adapter from the A/C outlet

– Once the unit detects that power was lost, each phone number you configured will receive a notification text message.  You should wait for the text message notification on your phone before proceeding.

– Plug the A/C power adapter back into the outlet

– Once the unit detects power has returned to the unit, you will receive a notification text message alerting you that power has been restored to your unit.

How do I turn off the alarm once I’ve received the alert?

Once you figured out the problem you can remove the sensor from the water and wipe off the sensor with a dry cloth or towel.

Flip power switch on the left side of the unit to the off position. Please, be sure to flip the switch to the “on” position when you’re done or you won’t have a functional unit in the future.

If you are hearing more of a chirp coming from your unit, it is notifying you of low batteries. There is a low battery LED status light on the front of the unit that will confirm your batteries are low. You will also hear this alarm if your batteries were not installed correctly.

Either replace your batteries or install them correctly and when you turn your unit back on, the low battery LED status light should no longer be blinking and the chirp will no longer sound.

Is the Cellular Alarm water resistant?

While the water sensors are completely waterproof, the main unit IS NOT. Do not get your unit wet or submerge in water. The unit is also not built to withstand outdoor conditions. This should not be a concern the unit hangs high above your basement or crawl space floor, significantly lowering the risk of contact with water. Our standard warranty does not cover water damage of any sort, so be sure to keep your unit dry at all times.

How does the Alarm work?

Our device connects directly to your local Verizon network and uses SMS (Short Message Service) or text messaging to send notifications to the users’ mobile device.

When will the unit send a message? When the unit senses an alarm situation (high water, power outage, or low temp (using the optional sensor) the user can expect to get a message. When the situation returns back to normal, the unit will once again send out a message. Each device can store up to three phone numbers and will message them each time an alarm situation is triggered or a return to normal is detected.

Our unit acts as a mobile device, there is an annual cellular cost associated with the device. We charge just $49.99/yr to connect to the local cell network. That’s cheaper than grabbing coffee one time each month.

Can I return my unit for a refund?

We accept returns for exchange or refund 30 calendar days after delivery of the product. After 30 calendar days, returns are accepted at our sole discretion and may include a 15% restocking fee. Items must be in “new, unaltered and unused condition”.

Can I use PumpAlarm.com products internationally, outside the United States?

Our products are designed specifically for cellular networks in the USA utilizing a CDMA radio. We can only ship to the lower 48 states and Hawaii at this time.

How is the Sump Pump Alarm Kit different than my standard water sensor I already have?

Standard water sensors only beep once they notice water, which is fine if you’re near your alarm. What happens if you’re not home, or sound asleep 2 floors above? We’ve all heard horror stories of a standard water alarm that was sounding but did not alert anyone to the problem. Our unit helps solve this problem by alerting you where ever you happen to be. Receive a text message to three numbers of your choice whenever high water or a power outage is noticed. Plus, It works with or without power to your home.

Is the Cellular Alarm Covered by a Warranty?

Yes, our unit is covered by our standard warranty, which is good for one (1) year from the purchase date and covers all manufacturing defects.

Arent’ There other sump pump alarms that will call me?

There are solutions on the market that will call you when high water is spotted in your sump pit. But, do you already have a phone cord run to your sump pit area? What happens if you don’t have home phone service, which happens quite regularly nowadays. PumpAlarm.com devices don’t require a phone line, a computer or home network. Simply plug it in and send it one message to start receiving text message alerts direct to your mobile phone.
